History of Phraya Pichai Muay Thai
The Phraya Pichai Thai Boxing Camp were founder members of the British Thai Boxing Council, the largest & oldest Thai Boxing Association in the UK. Recognition by the International Federation of Muay Associations and the Amateur Muay Thai Association of Thailand, the World Muay Thai Council & the British Combat Association means that tuition and support are second to none.
Phraya Pichai is one of the largest Thai Boxing Camps in the country with amateur and professional clubs around the UK and abroad (at it’s peak with more than 60 clubs and associated clubs).
The club began when Bob Spour and John Ryan, old mates, started Thai Boxing together with Master Sken. They founded Phraya Pichai Camp together along with the British Thai Boxing Council (BTBC) with Master Sken, Sandy Holt and Tony Moore in 1979 in Manchester. The BTBC is one of the oldest organisations for Muay Thai in the world.
When John Ryan left for Hollywood in the early 1990’s (famously acting as Sean Connery’s stunt double in Medicine Man!) he sold his “Fighting Fit” Gym in Preston to Steve Scott and Bob Spour took over Phraya Pichai completely, relocating it to Birmingham (where Bob was at university).
